Trek fx1 thruskew question

I’m trying to convert my bike to a e-bike with front hub motor but after taking the original tires out I noticed that it’s not all the way through. I was wondering if I can just cut the piece with the thruskew and use bolts to hold it down or should I replace the fork? It’ll be way cheaper to cut it but it might affect safety of it.
